Willful

Pinot Noir- Winemakers Cuvee 2012

The 2012 Willful Winemaker Cuvee Pinot Noir is a blend of eight barrels that were particularly exceptional. The wine is all Pommard clone, with around 95% coming from the estate vineyard in the Dundee Hills and 5% coming from Northridge Vineyard in the Eola Hills. Pommard is one of the earliest clones planted in Oregon. It is particularly elegant and works well with the earthy, floral qualities of the Dundee Hills.

A warm growing season and low yields (1.5 tons per acre) created an intense wine with a core of sweet, dense fruit on the attack. Fermentation with native yeasts and careful handling resulted in a lush, plummy mouth feel with a firm texture. The eight barrels were selected because they represented the intensity and fruitfulness of the vintage, but had a particularly elegant structure and suppleness. This wine is enjoyable upon release but should also cellar for 6-8 years. It should pair well with heartier chicken dishes and pork.
