Savage Grace Chardonnay 2013

Vineyard Source: Celilo Vineyard (Columbia Gorge, WA)

Harvest: 10/9 and 10/15, 2013. Brix=23.4 and 22.8.

Processing (Wine Making): Whole-cluster pressed into 50% tank and 50% neutral French oak barrel lots for fermentation. ML on barrel portions only, with weekly battonage thru ML. Blended after 6 months. 
Alcohol: 13.8%. Final pH=3.3. 

Tasting Notes: Green apple, Asian pear, and mineral meld into a bright and silky chardonnay.

Aspect/Altitude/Climate/Soil: Sub-alpine, SE-facing slope, 800-1200 feet non-irrigated, volcanic loam, Wente clone.

Production: 185 cases

Winemaker Comments: "The style of this cool-climate Chardonnay falls somewhere between a Chablis and a more traditional white Burgundy. The mature fruit tones from the old-vine Chardonnay used here (>30 years) and subtle oak-treatment provide a richness and smoothness that well balances the bright character of the wine, making for an unusually tasty and food-friendly chardonnay. Definitely not an oak or buttery Chardonnay. ” —Michael Savage
